Question

So I finally figured out my main topic question.

How do issues with grief differ between kids teens and adults?

I think that I'm going to end up giving out a survey to different ages of people adults, kids, and teens. Now I think im going to get back to my questions.

Essential Questions

I feel like I know what my main questionn is but its like on the tip of my tongue.

I have thought of a few sub questions though.

  1. How do children deal with grief?
  2. How do adolescents deal with grief?
  3. How do adults deal with loss?
  4. How do different cultures deal with grief?
  5. When is the time to get help for someone dealing with grief?
  6. How does Koobler's theory relate to all the different types of people?

These are just a couple of things, I probably will end up changing the questions tommorow.

leave me some comments if you have any ideas!

I really don't know

Today Ms. King and I talked about what my main question could be but I didnt write it down therefore I forgot what we said. So I've been trying to think shes been helping people so whenever shes free I guess I'll go talk to her.

I am really starting to find some good sites now that I know alot about what im going to do. I talked to Ms. King today and she told me I could research grief in kids teens and adults and just compare the differences. So I got alot of sites and now I just have to do my webliography which i will probably work on over the night or weekend. I'll post it as soon as i complete it.

Letter of Intent

Today in class I typed up my letter of intent. Christina Provident Checked it and made some corrections. Ill paste it below:

Ms. King
City Charter High School
717 Liberty Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Dear Ms. King:

Grief is a major psychological emotion that happens to almost anyone. It is something really important and I think that everyone should know at least a little bit about. I chose this topic because I went through a really hard time 5 years ago when my Father passed away. It was literally the worst time of my life. I don’t have much knowledge of the topic but I do know a little bit since it happened to me. I would like to know more about it though, so I can understand why it happens.

The sub-topics that I would like to study and elaborate on, are grief in teens, and the stages of grief. I plan to use a lot of different resources throughout the researching period. I will most likely use the internet, the library database, and probably go to the library and get a few books on the topic! I could probably get articles from periodicals too. I also plan to interview a grief therapist or someone who knows a lot about it so I can get the information straight forward.

For my action plan, I would like to volunteer and participate in something at the caring place. I found out that the school can join the caring team and we can have a penny war every year to donate money to them. Also if we do that we could have the chance to go to one of the events and even get a chance to meet some of the Steelers! I would set up everything for the school to join and it would be a great thing to do for the community. In addition I would like to volunteer there a couple times to maybe talk to a couple of the kids and help them get through their loss.

Plagiarism is when you take somebody’s work word from word and copy and paste it without permission. You can use quotes you just can’t copy word from word. The consequences would be failing the grad project and not walking across the stage with the rest of the class. I definitely do not intend to ruin my high school career by plagiarizing I will work hard and get my own work done.

Sincerely,

Jason A. Pace

Let me know what you think any comments?!

Now im going to find some more sites for research, and get started with that soon.

The 5 Stages

I just learned that theres 5 stages in the grief process.

Denial : The initial stage: "It can't be happening."
Anger : "Why ME? It's not fair?!" (either referring to God, oneself, or anybody perceived, rightly or wrongly, as "responsible")
Bargaining : "Just let me live to see my son graduate."
Depression : "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"
Acceptance : "It's going to be OK."

I think that this is pretty accurate because when my dad died i did go through most of these things.

Contacted the Caring Place!

I contacted The Caring Place by email today.

I told them that i was doing my graduation project, and that i was interested in doing something to make a difference in other kids or teens lives. I have a couple things that i would like to do. One is i'd like to get the school to join The Caring Team, and i'd like to maybe go and talk to other teens about what their going through and how they can cope with it.

there is a website to the volunteer opportunities:
http://www.highmarkcaringplace.com/getinvolved/volunteer.shtml

http://www.highmarkcaringplace.com/getinvolved/caringteam.shtml

I think that this is going to help me and other people that are going through grief, since I've been through it before. Ms. King really helped me think of some good ideas, and was a lot of help.

Hopefully everything pans out with The Caring Place will see, I'll keep you updated!

Grad Projects

1. I heard that the graduation project at City High is challenging but it will benefit you in your future.

2. Some of my interests that i would like to structure my project around are:

a. Psychology (grief)

b. Football

c. Business

3. Some of the concerns that i have about the project is just im really nervous. I'm concerned that i'm going to screw up and mess up during the presentation part. It's just a very important thing and you have to take it extra serious.

Narrowing the Topics

Narrowing Topics

Football
Grief
Business

Grief seems the most interesting.
I think grief because I went through it before and I know a lot already about it.
I think either grief or Football because there’s a lot out there.
Business is most likely to be used after graduation
I think grief would produce a unique project
Grief because a lot of people go through it.
Grief will be the one ill commit to over several months.
Grief will fit my needs.
